MIA has given birth to a “healthy, fine beautiful” baby boy.
The London-born Sri Lankan singer – who wowed audiences at the Grammy Awards on Sunday February 8, when she performed live on the date she was due to give birth, announced the arrival of her son Mathangi Arulpragasam on her MySpace blog.
MIA, 31, wrote: “My early stage labour kicked in around 2 am. My baby was born Wednesday, he is healthy, fine, beautiful and the most amazing thing ever on this planet, of course I’m his Mum!!!”
The Paper Planes singer and her musician fiance, Benjamin Bronfman, announced they were expecting their first child together last October.
At the Grammy’s earlier this month MIA gave an incredible performance of Swagga Like Us with Jay-Z, T.I., Lil Wayne and Kanye West, despite being about to give birth at any moment.
Next Sunday, February 22, she is expected to perform at the Oscars. She will sing O Saya from British movie Slumdog Millionaire – which is nominated for Best Song.
